Family Law: Family Law and Social Media

Overview


This seminar focused on issues arising from using social media in the family law context, especially with respect to the way litigants use social media, to evidentiary rules, to privacy and to judicial ethics.

Objectives

The objective of this seminar was to give judges a better understanding of the impacts and ramifications of social media in the family law context and equip them to deal with these issues in the courtroom.


Summary

Led by senior judges, legal academics and experienced counsel with expertise in family law, and delivered using a combination of lectures and panel discussions, this seminar provided a primer on social media and a review of social media and privacy. It further covered how lawyers and their clients are approaching social media, judicial ethics in social media, evidentiary issues, and judicial orders regarding social media.
