In this assembly of the Montreal Division of the Superior Court of Quebec, judges gathered for a plenary meeting on various issues related to the transformation of the judicial function in contemporary society.
Each session covered a different aspect of this wider topic, with the objective of enhancing the
legal abilities of judges, their substantive skills, and their knowledge of the social context.
This one and a half day training program addressed several topics related to the transformation of the judicial function in contemporary society, including issues regarding the legalization of cannabis, social media and the judicial function, recent developments in criminal law, and the care of children in a digital world. The program also featured an informal discussion with the Chief Justice of Canada, the Right Honourable Richard Wagner. In order to enhance judges’ knowledge of the social context relevant to the various topics, the program included
presentations by judges, academics, representatives of the Barreau du Québec, and experts in addiction, public health and criminology.
